TIM THAYNE, PhD

Flipping the Script: How to Move Stuck Teens from Resistance to Ownership

Learn More

Tim’s journey toward becoming a leader in transformational change began during his junior year of college, when he realized the deepest career fulfillment would come from making a meaningful impact in people’s lives—particularly through strengthening family relationships. At the same time, he was drawn to the world of business, constantly translating theories of family systems and therapeutic intervention into organizational contexts.

While pursuing his doctoral studies in Marriage and Family Therapy at Virginia Tech, Tim shared this dual passion with a colleague, who encouraged him to connect with Harold Kurstedt - a renowned professor and organizational consultant. That conversation proved pivotal. Dr. Kurstedt immediately recognized the power of Tim’s vision and helped him bring it to life. He secured Tim an assistantship, office space, and his first full training group in a program that would become a cornerstone of his work: Solution Focused Leadership.

For more than 25 years, Tim has dedicated his career to helping individuals, families, and organizations achieve real, sustainable change. His experience spans private practice, as well as ownership roles in wilderness therapy, residential treatment, and transitional programs. He is a tireless innovator, continuously seeking better ways to help people overcome obstacles and create new, lasting norms.

At the heart of it all is Tim’s unwavering belief in human potential and the conviction that real success is measured not just by short-term gains, but by deep, lasting transformation. Whether working with a family in crisis or a company seeking cultural renewal, Tim’s mission remains the same: to help people move closer to their full potential and the satisfaction that comes with it.
